Coming Into…
…”My Own”
I’ve been shooting full time for quite a while now, but only recently have I felt
like I’m really coming into my own as far as my style goes… Especially when
shooting weddings. That said, I can’t even tell you how excited I am to finally feel my style grow
into it’s own, and see my photos look *just* the way I want them to…Like anything with a lot of hard work behind it, the payoff is a grand experience!
_______________________________________________________________
Alright, enough of my written excitement… Let me show you what I mean!_______________________________________________________________
I mentioned in a post a while back that I had a party to shoot in Beverly Hills…
What I failed to tell you was that this was a “White Party”.No, not one of those racist events from the deep South, but rather an excuse for
Hollywood’s elite to buy normally unusable clothing and enjoy it! I must admit,
shooting this was an ABSOLUTE blast. We arrived early, the sun was just beginning to set, and the chef’s were scurrying
about the house, preparing for guests. My assistant (Bri) and I were both dressed
in white, and appropriately using white “L” lenses when possibleLet me show you the gorgeous scene we were working with… The home was
originally built in the 1930s, a true “Old Beverly Hills” relic. It was beautiful!“Joy Itself”
Great view, eh?!
“Details”
Details #2When I said that everything was white, I mean EVERYTHING…
The entire home was painted white, and a lovely chocolate brown.
For some reason, I craved chocolate for about a week after this
shoot… I think I just realized why
“Masque”
“Sushi Anyone?”The Sushi Chef they hired was fantastic, hilarious, and extremely
talented… I’m a huge fan of good food and clients who beg me
to eat more
Self Portrait…I spotted this globe, and couldn’t resist shooting a quick
self portrait. Pretty cool, eh?
The Lower Deck…
The Lovely Hostess…A quick note about the glass she’s holding, as you may see later
in this post, these martini glasses actually lit up! For a lot of my
night photos, the mini-glowsticks in the glasses were enough
to beautifully light people’s faces.Way cool!
“Missed It”The memo about white, that is…
This guy had the COOLEST personality though.
Really fun to photograph
The Man In Charge…Michal was engaging and extremely helpful, all evening long.
Though it’s no wonder, since he runs an extremely successful
company called “Your Little Helper”. If you’re in LA or the OC
look them up!
“Blue Shoe Photo”Just in case you forgot the name of my company
And no, those are NOT my feet, lol.. Thanks for helping Bri!
“Characters”
“Light and Expression”LOVE The light in this one… Told you he was a character!
“The Memo #2″This guy obviously DID get the memo!
(Xanga isn’t letting me post all of these large, really a pity!)
“Sunset View”
“A Red Carpet Event”
“Intent”And I should mention….
“Live”And now, a little contest…
Name This Man…For some kind of huge prize from me… Anyone?!?!
Whew, this is turning into a loooong post. Sorry dial up users!
The End…Shot the above image right as the night was coming to a close…
All the light was provided from drinks, and the lit bar.
Crazy dark, but really a beautiful night! And that’s all for me tonight folks!
Let me know what you think!
I’ve got to go pack

Needless to say, I LOVE all of the images and am quite honored that you chose to post a couple of mine!
You’re definately coming into your own, it’s been a joy to watch your mad skills blossom!
Oh Well done Eric! Elegant and charming.
Your on your way…May God bless your work
goodstuff! looks like quite an expensive party! lol…i’ll have a yellow party!
I don’t know who that guy is, but it looks like you photoshopped his face onto the woman standing next to him. Family resemblance.
What lovely pictures. For some reason I found myself thinking of the book “The Great Gatsby”. Take care and go eat some chocolate. Take care, sharon in charleston
That’s cool. I love the flower’s reflection on the table.
sweet photos eric!
wow what a cool party! great pics!
Again! Amazing pictures!!!! I love them all. And I love your style!
*hugs*
Good on you dude. Nothing like seeing the rewards of consistently doing the hard yards. You’ve paid your dues and are obviously reaping the rewards.
packing because…you’re leaving chatt again? lol….go figure.
p.s. check out my recent blog.
WOW! What amazing photos !
no idea who the guy is, but the photos are great as always!!
What a fun party that must have been! I don’t recognize the man in the picture, is he an actor? The Pictures are beautiful. Well done!
All of these are so much fun
And I love the profile pic, your lens looks absolutely ginormous!
there is too much white, you need more color
j/k
Cool pics, man. Glad to see these examples of excellent photography.
It’s about flipping time. Jeez! Glad you had Bri with you, since you pounding on my door at 0-dark-thirty in the morning makes for a grumpy skunky.
Nice to see how the other half live. Great shots
Pretty Rocking sweet event! Here in Minnesota we have white parties all the time, except they involve a shovel and sometimes a good snow plow! HA, keep up the great work!, it’s an awesome place we work in! Thanks for the inspiration! what’s your favorite lens to shoot with?
Great shots of what looks like a pretty neat party! I particularly like the flowers on the glass table, the blue shoe (how was that set up — it’s clearly not just one shoe reflecting itself?), and the b/w “Missed It,” which shows all sorts of character! No — it can’t be Phil Spector — lol — is it Ben Afleck?! I don’t know!
Good thing I found my way to a hi speed connection before trying to see all those! They beautiful of course. Nice work. Now go get yourself a Reese’s or something.
P.S. I have no idea who that guy is so we’ll have to go halves on the pizza.
o my wooooord, these are all so enchanting! i can’t wait to see what you do on sunday
your photos truly do get better every post. fun talking to you today, you are one fun fun person and i am praying for your week, your car and your trip to cali! ;)
o, we still have to work on getting mary out here in january. that’s number one on my list of to-do’s after the wedding details… no actually it IS one of the wedding details… and i am thinking a very important one.
lol @ Skunk. You two are professional at stealing each other’s thunder…
=Matt=
Your pictures are beautiful!
Beautiful!!!
cool photos!
I am so inspired by your stuff – INCREDIBLE!!!
the view from that house is just magnificent! everyone seem to be having a blast, great job of capturing all those moments. you know… once you go to “L”, you’ll never want to go back.
Who says white is normally unuseable clothing? I beg to differ, cherie.
I wish I could have been at that party. Looks fantastic. And great job on the photos (yes, this time I put the perfunctory compliment in
)!
As for naming that man, I’ll call him “Rupert”.
Of course I don’t know his actual name.
Eric - I just want you to know that “Masque” may be one of the most beautiful photo’s I’ve ever seen. Honestly, mainly because of the content, but I seriously stared at that photo for more than two solid minutes.
It’s beautiful.
LOL at Ethan. Funny man. I peeked at some of these photos before….they are wonderful…..yet, much more fun with your commentary! Excellent work. Intent is prob my favorite. Looking forward to more fun times and getting to know you more. Hugs, Jenny
ok, great pictures, blah blah blah. BUT, I am at your site cuz I have a laptop with wireless internet! yay! I AM at my church…outside on a bench, but hey, I do what I can.
Oh, and the pictures are awesome.
Wow…thats all I can say. Just wow.
My thought with the globe shot was, “so that’s what you’d look like bald.”
your pictures are amazing. I love the ones on the balcony
Beautiful shots..heard you are doing Carolyn’s daughter’s wedding..how awesome!!!
Ok, here’s a longer comment:
JOy Itself…breaking all the rules of composition and working beautifully
Details…I think I like the 1st one best, but love the colors in the 2nd one
Masque…operatic
Sushi…tells the story
Self portait…strange to look at, off balanced
Lower Deck….one of your best
Man in Charge..delightful energy
Blue shoe by Bri…she’s very good at close up details
Light and Expression….LUV IT
Intent…sweetness
Name this man..so are you going to tell us? It’s a nice image btw
Hugs
sarah, chad, jim and i had a blast with you today. we talked about you on the cell phones all the way home… i hope your ears were burning becase it was all good
you have so much energy! and your photos were amazing!
Dude! 8gigs of JPEG????
that’s a lot of post work man! hope you have an assistant to sort through them for you
I came away with 500 RAW or so, out of which i’m probably gonna spend time on about 50-100 and even that is a lot for me.
can’t imagine the thousands of pics you must have. lol
I opined, however, I did not juxtapose.
Ha!
I like Matt’s comment…. the joy between friends!
So glad you made it to California safely and hope you are having a great time. I had a hunch you would go earlier than later, I know I would if I was going to Laguna
I can’t believe we finally meet you the day before you leave us. We would so love to have had you hang out regularly! I’m on pins and needles to see your edited photos. Our invitations come next week so I want to order stamps from usps.com with their photo on it to go on the wedding invitations. Is that a fun idea or what?
See you in a couple weeks!
WHITE POWER!
oh, wait.
No offence, or anything, but I don’t like the view. There’s just something about LA that has never felt right to me…
Of course, I could just be crazy. Cool Pics!
RYC: *raises eyebrow*
You’re fortunate you asked me BEFORE ever reading that article.
I think I discovered why the penchant for redheads…
You won 1st place in our contest!!
Also we left you a message in your message center
I LOVE that you are finding yourself growing into your own style. While it can be helpful to get the opinions of others – “. . . . to thine own self be true!” (who said that?) Anyway I think the “who is that” person looks like Burt Bacharach.
When are you going to tell us?
o yay, i can’t wait to see more pictures! i knew the ocoee was controlled by dams but the water sources that come through those dams are in very serious condition. the water situation is a crisis that the whole state has been aterted to this week.
looking forward to seeing you soon. gotta scoot, the UPS man is here with the wedding invitations!
you need to update!
We are getting married on June 07,2008…6,7,8..
It seems kinda of silly to be worrying about finding a place 8 months ahead of time..but the city I live in doesn’t have too many venues for banquet facilities! But…God is in control, I suppose there is something better out there for us!
)
the bride and groom have not been at a computer since you sent me the photos. they have been working at the marble festival up until late this afternoon and sarah’s laptop broke… ahhhhhh. so they will be in for a surprise tomorrow!
I’d rather you know the original lyrics than the “Christian” ones, honestly
. as a woman- objectifying my body is one thing. Objectifying my faith is something else entirely.
RYC: Yeah, belly dance was something I was into a few years back… I quit because I hated the undercurrent in the scene that went along with it. That and the horrible comments and assumptions I got all the time. Occasionally, though, I like to teach a little.
Cataan… I’ve never actually played that game, to tell the truth. Unfortunately, I rip somewhat applicable photos from other sites and post them on my blog. I’m not as cool as you as to take my own.
Bouldering… we never actually made it out that far. The ones who showed up were even less experienced than I thought and literally flinched when I launched myself down just the bank toward the trail to where the cliffs were. I scared them, even though at least one of them had done a stint in the Army. So… we hiked and sat on large rocks and looked at pretty views. *sigh* Boys…
Engineers… there is an incredibly disproportionate amount of engineers in the social dance scene here in town. I personally know twelve now. Every partner I dance with seems to be yet another form of engineer. I remarked on this once and the guy grinned and said, “Of course. We have to offset the geeky image somehow.” Maybe it’s just that. *shrug*
Hey Eric. My mom and I made a new xanga and we’ve always enjoyed yours so we hope you’ll come by and check it out… oh BTW we chose the rong type of xanga so when you go to our site just go to to the upper left hand corner of it and click weblog and it will show you our posts.
David (Bri’s cuz)
“Light and Expression” ….I love that red!!! That is the best shot!
Thanks for the compliment on Dan’s site.I will get a good camera one of these days and go to town! The Sony Cybershot is ok ,but it does not do what i want.
ryc~ I’m all for you staying out of hospitals for many years to come!
What’s this ‘air quality’ you speak of?
wow…that lower deck is just phenominal! and a view to boot! cool series.
hey eric, it’s so great to read and see how your diligent work is really paying off! i can sense your excitement! i know that you have so many great experiences ahead of you. keep up the great work!
proud? why?
ryc: thanks! coming from a pro like yourself means a lot!!
