I Need An Adventure…
Surf Trip Time!!
It’s been a looong time since my last epic adventure…
(riding my motorcycle to Alaska) And I’ve been thinking that it’s high time
I get out and experience the world in my own crazy style once againI’ve been trying to make time to take a surf trip up the coast ever since I
bought my latest transportation device… A 1970 Volkswagen Bug.
My Favorite!I never pictured myself in a Bug, but when I needed 4 wheels to get
around and I grew tired of paying for my rental car (I had it for 9 months, lol)
I decided to search out old Mini Coopers… And found this instead. It’s funny really, but I’ve absolutely fallen in love… It’s a BLAST to drive
and I’ve literally met NO one who hasn’t cracked a grin riding in it, or even
watching as I drive by… So much fun! After years of throwing WAY too much money at high end vehicles this
little Bug has stolen my heart in a whole new way. It’s in the paint shop now…
Getting “pretty” before our trip North on Thursday.
Back to the trip…
I leave Thursday… I’m going to Seattle… It will take a week or longer…
And yes, I’ll be blogging. The pictures I captured last time I took these roads were incredible… The people
I met were amazing, and the time spent on the go was inspirational to say the least. If you’re along my path, drop me a comment… I love good food.
If you’re not, feel free to follow along with me on this journey.
I can’t wait to share it with you!And with that, I’m going to get back to my preparations… Lots to do!
P.S. I mentioned my teeny little Bug is in the paint shop… Any guesses on the color
she’ll end up?! Prize for the winner

Oh I love your car… too cute!!
I am a HUGE bug fan! Mine was midnight blue and instead of a surf board she carried my sail board through three summers. I miss her ALL of the time… I went from her to a cabrio convertable for awhile and then monsters come along… now that they are getting a little bigger though I am thinking the next step is a bug convertable! I am going to paint mine hot pink… what color will yours be? hmmm… I’m guessing maybe a pumpkin orange or chartruesse? I look forward to finding out and I can’t wait for your trip pictures!
*cough*blue*cough*
Oh-so-jealous, by the way. Stephen wants to go on this exact kind of trip some day. Would you be interested in re-doing it some time in 2009?
=Matt=
Love the car and the adventure….I am guessing she will wind up blue!
i’d have to guess blue too.
but she’s a cutie!
I hope she’s two toned!
Chartrusse would look nice with your eyes
wow – i’m in seattle… perhaps a meet-up for coffee?
dagnab it…you’re still on the west coast.
My first car was a 1977 VW beetle, and I still miss that car.
looking forward to viewing your “treck” on your blog.
Blessings.
guessing perriwinkle?
way to finally make it up to my nook of the country! too bad you wernt here like 3 weeks ago. most of the fall leaves have all fallen off now.
hot rod red? what’s the prize?
I hope you have fun on your trip. I want to do that.
I’m guessing orange and blue.
I want to guess pink. Just because I think it’s not likely. One of my friends has an old white bug he’s fixed up. I doubt he’ll drive it much in the winter though. Heat is more necessary in these snowy parts.
Dude your next adventure has to be with THE SKUNK.
This entry was not what I was expecting, given what you wrote a mere 4 days ago.
SLOW DOWN
That’s what I’m learning to do… At least a bit.
After living my entire life CONSTANTLY on the move,
rushing from city to city, experience to experience, I’m changing…
Slowing things down more and more every day, removing some of
my expectations and needs for rapid development, intense change.
I’m slowly beginning to understand the beauty of HOME.
The completion of satisfaction… And the joy of subtle discovery.
And then the next entry, “I need an adventure!”
Well, I definitely empathize. And I must admit, I am slightly jealous of your ability to just “get-up-and-go.” Right now I’m living “prostrate to the high mind” so to speak, and though I had an adventure about a month ago (Canyonlands National Park, Utah – 5 days 60 lbs, and 60 miles of rugged beauty) I find myself ready, and sometime desperate for, another one. For me, traveling epitomizes the best things about being alive: meeting new people, sharing delights and passions, and finding kindred spirits in every corner of the world. Not that it is necessary to travel to do that. Finding a kindred spirit right next door is one of the sweetest surprises I can think of, and is reviving to the soul.
Have you heard of http://www.travellerspoint.com? It’s spectacular with TONS of amazing pictures. My username there is KarliRae, though I don’t have many photos uploaded yet because of the busy-ness of school.
But have a wonderful time, especially SURFING!!! I’m so glad you’ll be keeping us up to date.
peace
I think Blue!
Well, I love the baby blue and cream that’s original to the car, but hmmm…everyone is guessing blue, so just to guess something different, I’ll say RED because that’s my fave color.
Otherwise, I’d think aqua.
This trip sounds, well, pretty much perfect…I need to do something like this and soon! And I have no idea what color you would pick, but I would go orange all the way:)
I’m a bit south of Seattle but definitely a ways off the road I see on your map. Enjoy the trip & I can’t wait to see what you do with rain!
I want to take that trip! Except, drive from Tennessee to southern Cali and up to Portland, then back again along the northern route (possibly this summer). What do you think is the best route to take from here to California?
Thats Awesome… my first car was a 69 bug… My parents still have it and tow it behind their motorhome… I figure my kids will drive it one day!!! It has been in our family since it was bought new!!!
I can’t wait! I love when you go on adventures and take us along for the excitement
Tell us it won’t be taxi cab yellow :O
I learned to drive a stick shift on a bug.
I vote for green or red. But a bright blue would be nice too. Orange perhaps?
But when I think, “hey, this is Eric, the blue shoe guy” I have to think blue. Bright, shiny blue.
That’s an awesome little bug, Eric! My fiance wants a bug in the worst way. How much did you spend for that one?
P.S. I vote blue for your paint color. A bright royal blue.
good luck with your trip
I know a bunch of people have already said this but BLUE!! heh. Dude I’ve got this weird dream, a dream to one day own a bug and fix it up to be as zippy and rally-car-ish as a mini cooper. I’m glad to hear that they are as fun as I thought they could be =).
