  • That Brings Us…

    …To October.

    October was a flurry.

From Savannah to Atlanta, Marietta to Dayton

(and back), all of life was a buzz.

Though I’m leaving my September post with a plethora of

pictorial holes, let me move along to October the First which

finds me in Savannah, Georgia visiting
    SCAD, a well reputed

art college with my friends Heather and Julie.

We left for the weekend on Thursday afternoon.

We’d planned to camp on the beach, so we loaded up all

of our camping gear in the back of my Trailblazer

    and headed South.

Upon arrival in Savannah, we strolled about the Historic

district and River Street. Just a block from where we parked,

we found this beautiful blue door:

    Blue door

    Absolutely gorgeous, eh?

On River Street, I caught this candid shot

of Julie and Heather as they wandered along the broken

street, past the tourist traps and shops that line the

    beautiful, historic waterway.

    Savannah Heather and Julie

    Yup, they’re both camera-toters as well…

We popped into one of the shops along the way, where

we bought some delicious fudge and watched as they made

    salt water taffy from scratch.

    Taffy Man

Then, looking away from the water for a moment

I snapped this exposure of the Capitol Building.

    The colors were beautiful!

    Savannah Capital

Shortly after I took that shot, I heard a yell and a thud… Followed

shortly by a camo dressed man running, and a woman’s scream.

I hurried over to the scene to see that one homeless guy had knocked

    another one unconscious…

As no one else was doing anything, I checked his pulse and wondered

at the fact that his head hadn’t cracked after it’s rapid 6′ descent to the

hard brick pavement. Within 5 minutes 8 cars of Savannah’s finest showed

up and I turned the situation over to them.

What a way to start a visit!

After some outrageously overpriced stuffed shells for dinner, and the

realization that staying at a hotel would be within $10 of the price

of camping, we found a semi-comfortable hotel and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, we headed back into the Historic district with

plans to haver breakfast at a fabled bakery. It’s reputation was well

earned!! I had the most incredibly delicious sandwich, I could barely

    believe my own taste buds…

Brie, Blueberry Jam, and Sugar Cured Ham… Perfection!

    Brie and blueberry

    Soooo tasty!

Later that day, we made our way back to River Street

to watch some of the street performers. We ran across

a group of break dancers that were really impressive…

And had drawn quite a crowd!

    Street Performers

And a second angle of Heather catching the action with

her “new to her” 35mm Canon SLR.

    Heather Shooting

The next day we visited SCAD… For Julie, we went through

all of the fashion design buildings. For Heather, all of the videography

buildings, and for me, of course the photography buildings (I got to

play with a Canon EOS-1D… Nice!).

During our wanderings, I decided to try some overexposure

    work on this steeple:

    Church Steeple

A few hundred blocks later I caught this truly hilarious stop sign:

    Stop - Hammertime

And then, just outside of the photography building Heather and I

    exchanged photos:

    Heather at SCAD

Last but not least, we checked out one of the SCAD design student’s

projects… This AMAZING car, the “Spyder”:

    SCAD Car

The next day after Church was Heather’s hockey game.

Being from Alaska, she’s the only female player in the

league, and the star goalie at that!

    “Readiness…”

    Hockey Sticks

    “Prep Time”

    Heather Game 2

    “Chasing Dreams…”

    Running Hockey

    “Drink Up!”

    Heather Drinking

    Julie… “Observing”

    Julie - Hockey Game

Back in Atlanta, we were enroute “somewhere”

when my left rear tire blew… REALLY blew!

    Blown Tire

A week or so later, Julie and I went for a hike on

Kennesaw Mountain, at the Civil War battlefield

and I think I caught her eye

That’s got us up to the second week in October

and this is up to being nearly too long all over again!

I’ll continue on with the sordid tale of my last few

    exciting months.

Thank you all for your comments and kindness, let

me know if and how I can be praying for you, and

    please be praying for me!

New post in just a few days,

God’s blessing has completely covered you, and he has certainly given you many beautiful and amazing talents. I’m so blessed to be able to see them.

Wait–this sounds just like the LAST comment I posted.

    Ah, well, c’est la vie.

  • Eric, I glance at your posts and think, “wow, it’s long again!” That is until I start reading. It always seems like they stop so drastically. Nice photos. I hope someday I can visit awesome places to get neat shots. Routine area only offers so much diversity.

You can be praying for me, but for what exactly I’m not sure. I just need prayer. I have been caught in one of those ….. confused, frustrated, blessed, stressed, behind, excited, depressed, happy, confused moments …… except this moment has lasted over a week so far. *sigh*

Keep up the good work! ~ Stephanie

  • Isn’t the South just gorgeous? I love that sign… but that car looks really unsafe :p

  • Hi, You have some wonderful adventures! I hope you are feeling better. I know something you could have done without. When my daughter was in Savannah this summer stayed at the Hilton — her friend’s mother works for the IRS. Yea. She ate somewhere there that had fried snickers. She had a time with the smell. Did you not go on any of the “ghost” tours. Mary (my daughter) and her friend met the people from TAPS-the ghost hunters they were doing an investigation there in Savannah. Time when I was there was working–flying in and such for the Army National Guard. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your “adventures” and great pictures. Sharon in Athens, GA

  • I liked the door and the sandwich the best! But that wasn’t really fair, since I only liked the sandwich because it sounded delicious. :)

  • i like how you completely left out the amazingness of meeting bri.

    chhh…

Luv the blue door…wonder how many people walk by it and never see it’s beauty
can’t type much, woke this morning with a very sore right wrist…feels like a sprain
Please pray for healing cause I need to work!

  • Beautiful…All of them! Amazing.

Makes me want to REALLY take those photography lessons that I’ve been thinking about….I should really.

    *sighs*

    ((hugs))

Thank you for sharing all those pics!

  • Great catching up to your world….though still a blur…and wanting more!  Your photos are a treat as usual..I esp. like the Capitol building and steeple…you have taught me to look up! Saw your comment on my sis’s site and will keep looking for more of your tour.

I guess biggest prayer request would be for the Lord to pick out and lead us to where we are to move to.  Our youngest son, 13, has loved the idea of moving close to the beach and some homeschool friends…but when told it wouldn’t likely be a house but a condo or apt. he was bummed.  Realised I am not worry about that but ask God to give us a place to raise him in these next years. This house we are leasing has been a real home but is too large and expensive now everyone has moved Some little cottage might be there somewhere for us..but fewer are available…so asking for the Lord’s provision and what He really wants for us!

May the Lord be blessing you!  Yes, always continuing to pray. Love in Him, Jenny

  • your pictures are amazing as usual. my favorite one is probably of the steeple. they are all very impressive. they inspire me to do more photography. i’m really enjoying my photo class right now. getting more familiar with using all manual. it’s pretty cool.

    steph

  • loved the sandwich…i want one right now!! the hockey pics are stupendous..really. and the steeple…nice. good to see your stuff…it’s always a treat.

  • She’s beautiful… and love the door!!! Keep on postin’…. ~ Dawn

  • Oh, and I meant to comment on how lucky you are to get anyone to ride in a vehicle with you with all the freak things that happen to your tires! Glad you’re okay!

  • Was that car for real?

  • thanks for your prayers. hey i’ve been thinking about switching to a mac….any advice?

  • am loving this!  Keep the documentary coming, it’s so nice to live vicariously thru friends.  Anytime you wanna little taste of the settled down with kids and a mortgage and 40 hr a week job – lifestyle, you just let me know and I’ll bore you right outta that curiosity!  Hugs and prayers!

  • The door. The food. The eye. Amazing pictures. I hope you’re doing well, kid.

  • ryc on bri’s site…she’s not online this week cause her college family went sking
    and took the laptop

  • You’ve been a busy man.

    Nice shots.

  • Updates from Eric every few days?  I’m in shock!  :)

  • 1,300 hours in the air….wow.  You DESERVE your own plane.

And for the record, I am so jealous of you.  You are living THE life.  Traveling….seeing the beauty in even the most simple objects….scenes.

How long have you been studying photography?  Is this your profession?  I wonder because while I don’t know much about photography, I can tell when something is REALLY good when I see it.

    Nice.

    ~Ann~

  • Woah, talk about some awesome pictures! Those are pretty incredible! Mayhap this is a tad biased, but my favourite is of the Capitol Building.

Brilliant update. Can’t wait to hear from you again.

Yeah, and forgive me for not commenting. Major .

  • i actually made the collage in photoshop. just shrunk down those 20 or so pictures and opened up a new huge new blank document and then dragged and dropped the pictures into the new doc! pretty simple.

  • Wow Man. Your work is getting really good. You have certainly surpassed me with you “artistic photojournalism”, something I was never that great at. My eye tends to be drawn with the more formal and classical aesthetic. I am envious. ;)

  • The Wolverine (Logan) one was mine. I don’t have any Canon Lenses- All my stuff is Nikon. Were you saying the D2Xs image sensor has really bad noise? I knew the d100 and d200 had that problem, but I was not aware of it in the D2xs. do you have any references for good online reviews I could check out?
PS are you goin to be in town (Chatt. area) over Christmas break at all? I would love to actually meet you in person before you head off again.

  • RYC: i dunno where the mango lime salsa is from. my mom bought it sometime awhile ago

  • Awesome pictures! I loved the stop sign though…that’s great!

  • so …will you be taking any pictures at Ethans wedding or are you part of the wedding party?

  • ryc~ Yes pictures! Well Mr groomsman, please post a few pic from the wedding asap. Bri wishes she could be there
    Hugs and prayers

  • nice images and a great trip. i really like the door shot.

  • The Sci Fi channel is running Heros starting on Friday from the beginning. Here’s your chance to catch up, at least a bit.

It’s on at 7:00 pm locally, and you’re (usually) in the same time zone I’m in, but check local listings.

It’s very comic book, but very real, with time travel and precognition that’s done well. The story creates a very rich and complicated tapestry. And there’s so much to tell that it’s a mystery, too.

Save the cheerleader, save the world!

    Don’t miss it!

  • awesome pictures! and yeah!

  • thanks for the comment! love that first picture of the door…i’m into that kinna stuff (obviously)! lol do you shoot on manual, or with aperture priority, or what?? and what camera are you using? keep up the good work in all your travels! God bless!

  • Hope all is well with you today (((HUGS)))

  • So to hear you are sick…Bri’s trying to fight off a sore throat cause she’s hoping to go to Disneyland this afternoon (she tried calling you but your phones diconnected?)

As for me and Spence, we’re tired and sore, so it’s a day of rest and planning for Christmas.
I will be praying for you and the whole wedding party.

  • Looking to see more from you Eric…maybe not til after the weekend ,huh?  Praying for you all!  Please pray for us to find a place to live…moving is a challenge!!! Lord bless, Jenny

  • i used one of your pics for the current amazing shot. -=o)

  • Hey, check out my pictures I posted of my photo final. I think i have a few amazingly awesome ones there, hehe. All hand developed and printed (which in my opinion is ok…but completely obsolete to have to take as a required class…). Merry Christmas!!

  • Such a wonderful treat to travel with you through your words and pictures. Thank you for the gift. May you have a blessed Christmas season. Judi
