I’m Sorry, But She Doesn’t Believe In…
Valentine’s Day…
There’s a girl.
And she thinks that Valentine’s Day is over rated.Of course, this is great for me, and my nutty ways,
but I couldn’t let myself go without posting a
“little something” to at least let you all in on this
large part of my life (she’ll might just shoot me for this).Without further ado, I’d like to re-introduce Ms. Julie…
My best friend, and my girlfriend.
As you’ve been reading throughout my last few posts,
Julie and I have been spending more, and more time together
over the past 6 months, eventually entering into a “relationship”
officially sometime in early October (Thankfully for me again,
she doesn’t remember dates any better than I do
).
The past months have been filled with a flurry of activities.
Many of them, you’ll hear about gradually as I continue to
slowly update this page with our adventures.
And now, to answer the barrage of “standard questions”
that we all ask every couple… New, or new to us.
How We Met:
Julie and I met in Guatemala during a “Feed The Monkey’s”
banana and hot air balloon rally…
Okay, in reality, we met through a mutual friend in
January of last year. The distinct irony of the event, is
that the day we met, was one of my first “photography”
days with my first “real” digital camera.
I was in Chattanooga for the day, and had been talking to
a couple of friends who were also in town for the day. When
we met, I discovered that Julie and Heather were there as well.
After a quick ice cream, we parted ways and added each other
as friends on myspace…
(How hilariously “Generation Y” of us, eh?)
Fast Forward to July…
So much has happened, I’ve been to Pennsylvania (twice) to
Florida once, planned a trip to Alaska and wrecked my bike.
I’ve bought another new bike, a new camera, healed up a bit,
and ridden back to Tennessee.
Only to discover that I no longer had a place to live!
With 3 weeks between our departure date and the current date,
I called on a few friends to help me out with a place to sleep
until I found a new place to call home.
Though several offered, I was able to spend most of my time
with none other than my good buddy Wesley Callihan…
The same friend who introduced Julie and I, that day in Chattanooga.
Here’s Wesley in all of his glory:
(He’s an up and coming movie director)
(Technical Side note… I was shooting with a Quantaray 70-300
for this and the following two shots. DON’T BUY ONE!! Terrible
lens, I was extremely unimpressed).
Now, Julie and I had barely communicated in the months
following our first meeting, but I was excited to hear that
she and Heather were coming up to visit Wesley that weekend.
And what a weekend it was!
“The Gang”

“One Last Look”
(Is that disdain I see?)

We all had a blast, both that weekend, and the following one
before Ethan and I left for our great “Bow Tie Tour” to Alaska.
The weekend after our return in September, I convinced Julie
and Heather to come back up and visit my newly re-injured self.
They were planning a trip to the Ocoee for a rafting adventure
with their Church, so of course I came along to take some pictures.

All who were involved had a great time.
So began the courtship of Julie and I… After spending
our weekends together in September, and our trip to
Savannah, I started spending a lot of time in Atlanta
with her family and friends, eventually moving there,
where I’ve spent the past 4 months.
Along the way, we’ve had some wonderful times…
In early December, Julie decided that it was the perfect time
for her to go ahead and carve up our Halloween Pumpkin.
Into The Blue… (I Fell)

Of course, as soon as she’d extricated all the seeds she wanted,
she decided that it was far too late in the year to have a Jack-O-Lantern
so she went about destroying the pumpkin in the most artistic way possible…

Did I mention what she does for a living?
Well, two things, actually… She’s an artist, she hand crafts
beautiful one of a kind jewelry pieces (her new website will be
live soon, I’ll get you the link) and she’s an art teacher…
To kindergarten and elementary aged kids!
Hard At Work, Filing…

One last picture before I go…. Noisy as heck, but it’s us!
Well, I’m exhausted, and I’m still far from completing “our” story,
nor the many others I’ve started telling you. As I write this, I’m a
15 hour drive from Ms. Julie, in South Florida working, and shooting.
I’m not quite sure how long I’ll be down here, and I’m missing my
dear girl quite a bit… I wasn’t home for Valentine’s which as I told
you before, isn’t a huge issue, but it got me thinking about the fact
that I still haven’t had a chance to tell you all about this remarkable
new chapter in my life.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the introduction,
expect to see much more from us soon!
Let me know if I can be Praying for you, and if you will,
please be Praying for Wisdom and Blessings on Julie and I…
We surely could use your thoughts and prayers!

hey i miss you friend. can’t wait to meet julie.
p.s. hi julie!
So sweet.
How DID you get so lucky?!? Low-maintenance? Hilarious? Giving?
You had BEST be counting your blessings, mr!!!
! Yay!
I am!!!
And also.
My hair has grown a LOT! I’m waiting for you, until I dye it. I don’t want to completely shock you. Haha.
pps.
valentine’s day is still a bunch of crap. hallmark holiday, anyone? It’s as bad as grandparents day. What a joke!! “Buy cards and feed into the mass-marketing bull!” Flowers die, anyhow. (But my favourite is daisy. fyi. Yes. A weed. That’s very correct.)
It might be disdain. It might be concern about the dude with the camera stalking me on a hike. Who knows which?
Yes. I love you.
You’re a nut!
.
And yes, I love you too
Your are SUCH a romantic!
Excellent post and a lovely “valentine” for Miss Julie
My fav picture is “filing”~ I’ve know doubt that young woman can keep you in line
She’s pretty.
Congratulations to both of you.
And happy Valentine’s Day (late).
Good post. I miss you man.
As everyone else already said, that was very sweet. I have & will continue to pray that God guides & blesses you all’s realationship! Praying for you, ~Elizabeth
cool love story. Thanks for sharing.
From GenX to GenY………cool story.
How fun! Julie is absolutely adorable!!!
Have a great day!
Christina
Four shoots? Did you get paided? and what were the subjects?
What a beautiful, blessed story.
i have to agree. valentines day IS overrated. terribly. i’d rather have flowers and a random gift on any other day of the year. i feel it shows more thought and meaning than on a day youre EXPECTED to give gifts, ya know?
yes on the 580…i’ll let you borrow it when you come visit!
wonderful story!
hehe. thanks. and i just love your pictures! the first one of julie is my favorite. she is sooo pretty!

Love the pumpkin smashing picture, man. Great action capture.
I liked your comment about mormons on the theologianscafe
do you think you could tell me more about mormon Beliefs and how they follow Christ?
in bullet form.?
will definitely be praying for you guys. that’s a pretty sweet story man. haha thanks for sharing!
I am very thrilled for you! She is gorgeous. I will be praying for you guys, that God will lead and bless your relationship.
aw how cute! Thanks for sharing with us!
(check out my site por favor!)
Great to read an update Eric. That picture of Julie “filing” could be in a magazine (both for the photo arrangement and quality, and Julie’s appearance.) But, oh my, do I disagree with you, Julie and some of the commenters on Valentine’s Day. It’s a glass is half full vs glass if half empty mentality. VDay isn’t a day Hallmark tells me to show my love (btw, I did not purchase any Hallmark products), it’s a day that presents me with yet another opportunity to show my love for my wife. It’s only bad if you make that the ONLY day you do it.
Christmas isn’t Jesus’s actual birthday, and it’s not the only day we love Him, and it is completely commercial…doesn’t mean we stop celebrating it!
Love your man or women all throughout the year, show them with constant surprises and acts of love, and also, wow them on Valentine’s. Step up to the plate, and knock it out of the park. Rise above the commercialism. Take the challenge and prove to her you did it because you can’t imagine another day without her. It’s an opportunity; not a requirement.
God bless!
Nice post Sir Eric! Wonderful pictures as always and I’m glad you’ve finally given “us” the official “introduction.” haha You sure are a handful, so you better treat Julie nice! haha
Couldn’t help that… Welp, have a wonderful time in Florida, God bless always! ~ Stephanie
Very cool story, very Generation Y indeed. I wish you both the best of luck. My wife and I were high school sweethearts, been together almost 8 years, almost two of them married. It is always uplifting to see young love blossoming.
Couldn’t help but smile at the picture from the Ocoee river. I have many fond memories on that river “Riding the Bull” is the best.
You’re both adorable!! I’m thrilled for you!!
yay post!
i absolutely loved reading that.
i’m so stoked for you guys, it’s all so rad.
you need to come visit, and bring julie…it would be stupendous.
for reals.
Probably
That was a very good message you sent me but i have never heard of the christian Canon before… ever, but i thought about the four criteria for it and this is what we have.
For Apostolic Origin- we might not have anyone who is related or companion to the 12 apostles but we have 12 apostles, our church is set up ecactly the same way it was when christ was on earth, and if you believed our church to be true and you read the Book of Mormon. In 3rd Nephi of the Book of Mormon you would read about Jesus Christ coming to visit the people in the Americas and he set the Church up exactly the same way as in the Bible. There is our Apostilic origin.
Universal Acceptance- we dont have universal acceptance but we arent trying to get that, some Break-away churches are trying that, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints did just that, and all they had to do was to: 1. change their name; now called Community of Christ
2. Place a Cross on the top of their church buildings. (but im not quite sure if they did that or if theyve always done that)
Liturgical Use- I have no clue what this is but you could explain it or not. i could just look it up but the internet if full of lies so i might have offensive information, i hope you dont take offense if i do bring it up.
Consistant Message- i could read out of the Book of Mormon and out of the Bible and i could just as easily find scriptures that talk about Christ in both. Everything in it is of Good Report, i love the book and i believe it.
i believe in Jesus Christ but according to what you believe, i am not a Christian.
ryc~ I’m asking my mom for a lightsphere for my birthday in April!
She sounds like a wonderful girl. God Bless you both.
Gorgeous photos and great tribute to her. Awesome work buddy.
Wow—-I didn’t know you had a girlfriend?! But yay for that! And yay for her being so adorable & (most importantly) talented!!!
These are great shots. By the way i already bought the Quantaray about a year ago and I hate it
Thanks who’s Amanda buddy?
congrats on your new relationship, all of God’s best for the both of you.
you sure had lots of awesome adventure, and you guys looks good together.
beautiful photography!
my fav is one last look. and i know, i’m a riot.
!!!
You sound SO happy in this post!!! Good for you!! May your whole year be full of happiness and joy!
Hey, it’s nice to see that you’re happy. Read on myspace that you finally have a website up. It’s about time! When are you gonna start making movies?
ryc~ thanks. I used the trick you taught me too
you mean BOO day!
How adorable. Thank God for broken equipment. =)
RYC: Well you found it a year ago, because you’re just smart. I’ve never been the brightest bulb in the box, so it took me a little longer to figure it out. Anyway hope you and that young lady are doing very well. From what you say she’s not a sentimental mush, and anyone who likes daisy’s has to be a good person.
Julie seems like a very level headed, smart woman, with direction, and she’s photogenic to boot. You’re a blessed man, you’d better be a good boy and a smart one by hanging onto her.
Lonnie
Very sweet. My wish for you is that “Your Story” is a never-ending-happy story!
u guys look awesoem together! =)
how wonderful for you and Julie! you both look adorable!!
*HUGS*
I love my Saab. it is one of the smoothest rides i’ve ever driven.
I’ll be praying for you for sure. Glad to hear about you & Julie!
One of the best Xanga entries I have read thus far ( and I’ve read a loooooot of Xanga entries.) Good luck to you both.
Hey Eric! Great pics as always and interesting little narrative. I thought you were going to pull something out of your hat like “and we’re engaged.” It’s all the rage. Everyone seems to be doing it these days, so I figured you wanted in on it or something. Anyhow, the chorale is coming up to PA. Hope you’re doing well.
Anna
ryc~on the moon shot, it made Bri chuckle. Then she said, “I miss ewic, I’m in a missing people mood”. (she’s home for the weekend, working on more design projects)
camtasia?
and congrats w/ the lady. happy for you guys. =]
