Of Alarm Clocks…
And Why They All Deserve…
DEATH.
The past few weeks have been fairly insane.
I’ve worked over a hundred hours a week, leased
a new place, become a “regular” and forced myself
to use an alarm clock (kinda).
The greatest challenge of those?
No, not the seemingly endless hours in the office,
not the worries of lodging, and the ridiculous hunt
for furniture… The worst?
Alarm clocks.
All my life I’ve been an entrepreneur.
With that lifestyle in mind, I have always had the
“perfect schedule” (or rather perfect LACK of schedule).
I’ve taken great pride in never having to wake up to the
obnoxious beeping of that little electric box.
Well, as they say…
“Pride goes before a fall”
In early March I was recruited by someone I’ve always had
a lot of respect for in business. He offered me an amazing
opportunity… One that required me moving down to South
Florida and working side-by-side with the most elite of
business people.
Somehow, when I said “Yes” I missed the fact that I’d have
to buckle down and live a lifestyle governed by one of the
worst atrocities ever known to man.
Almost.
Instead of breaking down and actually using a “real” alarm
clock, I’m being awakened every bloody morning by my
cell phone alarm… So at least I still have SOME dignity
within my semi-crushed “internet lifestyle”
Moving On…
I know you didn’t come here just to read of my hatred for
alarm clocks… So, I’ll give you what you really came for…
Pictures!
Though I’ve been working a ton, and haven’t had a chance
to shoot a lot, I did take some time over the past few weeks
to edit (when I really should have been sleeping). So what
you’ll find below is a plethora of images I’ve recently edited
from:
* My trip to Alaska – Hope to update that blog soon too!
* Adventures down here in South Florida…
* My new means of transportation…
* My New York City trip…
* Pretty Fall leaves…
* And more…
So, without further ado…
Let’s throw them in a bag and shake well.
“Dam It”
*Shot in Bannf, Alberta last summer…*
“After The Fall” – aka – “Eve”
*Shot atop my Julie’s head last Fall*
“Subtle Satisfaction”
*Shot in Quarryville, PA last May*
“Beaches of Delray”
*Shot last month… This is my current home!*
“Needs A Good Name!” – (Help Me?)
*Shot in Maplewood, NJ at a train station enroute to NYC*
The best name wins a cookie… Tell me what you think!
“Tail End”
*My Julie… Taken in Fall ’06*
“Streams Of Gold Await”
*Shot in the wild Yukon on our trip to Alaska*
I edited this a while back, but I’m not sure if I ever posted it.
“Training Cobwebs”
*Captured Fall ’06*
Cobwebs on a train’s leafspring.
“My New Wheels”
*Taken Last Week*
This is my transport here in Florida, a 2006 Ducati Monster…
At least until I get my vehicles down here
.
“The View From The Top (Of The World)”
*Shot at about 90MPH on the Alaskan highway… Yukon Territory, Canada*
I miss it up there, SO much.
“Time.”
*Caboose Axle – Shot in Fall ’06*
“More Than Meets The Eye”
*Taken on the road to Alaska – My take on the “poor man’s fisheye”
there’s so much in this image.*
“The Grandest Hotel”
*Exposed Fall of ’06 in my hometown of Lake Wales, FL
when I brought Julie to meet my darling Mother (yes, she
reads my blog… This is what we call “brownie points”
).*
“The Road Is Long”
*Also taken on the go… Yukon Territories, Canada – I miss it so*
“Brooklyn Style”
*Nightime shot of Brooklyn, NY – 6 Second Exposure*
“Opposing Lines”
*Shot in NYC – January 7th, 2007*
“Hardley”
*Shot Last Week*
I don’t use selective color much, but this seemed
like a prime candidate with it’s distracting background.
“THE Cabin”
*Exposed in The Yukon Territories, Canada during the
most breathtaking sunset. It lasted several hours
and the light was like nothing I’ve ever seen.
It’s intensity, and beauty were amazing.
So gold, so beautiful.*
“Imminence”
*Alaskan Fishing Boats in Ketchikan…
Awaiting the passing of a storm.*
This is one of my favorite images from the trip..
And finally, I leave you with my good ol’:
“Blue Shoes”
Just a bit more geometrically this time
So, that’s it for now… Please don’t hesitate to leave
me your prayer requests, and if you don’t mind…
Please be praying for me, I need a clearer view of
where God wants me to be, and a greater passion
for where I am now.
Blessings to you all, new post with (really) new
photos should happen soon methinks
.
P.S. I posted close to 20 shots on this entry…
Which is your favorite?!?
Comments (67)
LOVE THEN ALL!
Have to go to my bible study…will comment later
God Bless and pray for my mom’s surgery tomorrow
I like the blue pipe-ish one that doesn’t have a name and the cobweb one. But they are all good.
So how ’bout that coffee table book you were talking about making? You should still do it.
I’m working on the book still… My hard drive is full
right now which is making photo editing really difficult
and book work even harder.
New laptop soon I hope
hi. what’re you gonna do when your blue shoes wear out?
good pictures. i love the one of brooklyn like no ones business.
Haha that’s one of my THREE pairs of blue shoes

Don’t underestimate me… lol
Nice pics. I enjoyed them. Gotta say, I like the new wheels.
Looks like you’ve lost a lot of sleep over these! Nice work here! I sympathize with ya on the alarm clocks, one of the girls I used to room with had a rooster crowing. I threatened to toss it out the window if it ever went off again! (she quickly found another, almost as annoying setting.)
Back to the pics though, I really like the landscapes and the cityscape! I’m always impressed by your work! Wish I had the talent you do! I just don’t have the patience or the skill.
First, I share your hatred. I’ve homeschooled all these years, which has given me the freedom to start breakfast and school time at a reasonable hour (like 9 or 10). ;) Next year will be a MAJOR adjustment, as the two oldest kids are going to a “traditional” school, and it starts at 7:45. Ouch.
Second, I was GOING to say that the “Streams of Gold” pic was my favorite, but there are so many fantastic ones on here. I also love the “Brooklyn Style” and “Opposing Lines,” but I think the bike helmet pic is my favorite, favorite. Thanks for sharing.
AMAZING! I think mine was “Opposing Lines”… Maybe it’s because I that same one before you did. lol. They say that imitation is the highest for of flattery though.
unnamed..”Blue Decay” and The Cabin. Love them.
i like the cobwebs and the NY skyline best.
i also like the blue pipes one, and i don’t have an exact name right now, but it needs to be something about age or the end or something to that effect. because they look like they were once very nice pipes and they’re trying their best to still be useful.
haha…but then, maybe i put way too much thought into this. ;P
i haven’t talked to you in ages. i miss you.
Streams of Gold, and view from the top are my favourite shots, though egad, man! Some of these names are quite appalling! Use of the word “subtle” in a child’s portrait? What child has that kind of capacity, haha. And that training cobwebs one drives me bananas.
But, your talent lies in the art of TAKING pictures, just not naming them. I love you, and your work. Tres bien, daahling.
ps.
I’m not incredibly crazy about the shot of the “new ride”, or the one of me. The bike picture just seems to be.. lacking something. I don’t think it has to do with the editing, I’m not sure what it is. And the one of me.. Well, I just look like a twit, is all. Haha. <3
Oh. “Bent”, perhaps?
Quite fond of “After the Fall”. And the unnamed shot. and the cobwebs.
And I currently am setting two alarms on my alarm clock and a 3rd on my cellphone, placed across the room. This last week of school is going to be all out war.
Where should I begin?
ok, I got four:
-Dam it, after the fall, road is long and brooklyn style.
How about “Rusting Blue” or “Blue Rust”… I dunno. Anyways I “Brooklyn Style” is probably my favorite, but pretty much this whole group of pictures is amazing it was hard for me to choose. Probably “imminence”, “Dam it” and “training cobwebs” as well as the unnamed one. Ahh they are just amazing!
awesome set. the nameless blue one wins my vote. =)
I like the “more than meets the eye” photo.
Lovely photos, like always.
Blue Magnum! LOL
Eric, this is quite possibly one of the longest posts I have ever seen. Bravo! I want to go to Alaska someday, badly…
Concerning the S5 Pro, I’m almost positive that it can hit 3 FPS if you set the image mode a certain way, though it may slow down to 1.5 if you max it out. Me, I aim to “go JPG” with the S5, if the images are friendly to Bridge as far as noise and detail are concerned…
-Matt-
How about more frequent post with fewer pictures! There are so many good ones to comment on, and having to scroll back and forth ….
Ok 1st, Baniff shot- very surreal
Eve- good rich color and detail, interesting compositon
Subtle- I agree with Julie…stange title, distracts from the image
Delray…Florida is too flat! But looks like a nice place to live
The blue rust is a wonderful abstract…looks like a painting
Why do you like the photo Tail End?
beautiful photos! i hope you and julie are doing well!! blue shoes!!!
Just wonderful Eric, Judi
The View From The Top (of the world) just grabbed me. I couldn’t stop look at it.
Found something you might be interested in http://1000daysatsea.blogspot.com, 1000 Days Non-Stop at Sea. This couple plans to sail around the world for 1000 days. They left Sunday. Don’t know them but found this from a news cast.
Awesome pictures my friend. I can’t think of a name for the blue pipes as yet, but I’ll get back to you on that. I hear you on the alarm clocks issue. I had to get up at 5 this morning, and it wasn’t pretty. By the way, I’ll be around here for a couple more weeks then head to Atlanta for 5 then off to Greenville SC for an indeffinate period of time. If ever you’re riding through that way give me a ring (I think you have my number) and I’ll take you to the local places I’ve found. Hope all is going well!
Jared Gaston
P.S. I like all the photos. I can’t pic a fave, but in an effort to earn brownie points, “Tail End” is pretty amazing, but who doesn’t like a picture of a pretty gal…
you know, i always have a favorite… but this time, i love them all! you have a gift, my friend!
if you ever find yourself in Kentucky, will you puh-leeze take pictures of my kids? I think you’d do a fabulous job!!
Hahaha! Welcome to the real wolrd you lazy bum!
There all really good dude and I think pipes…or you can turn it around… yeah I think I like the second one better…
“No Longer Baby Blue” “Baby Blue No Longer”
“streams of gold await” has to be the best one. all other votes are just plain wrong. Great pictures though!
i seriously love your pics!!!
nice pictures, Eric. Since you moved did you come across my Spanish? Sure would like to teach the kids before they graduate.
Susan
i like the dam it one. i LOVE the nature pictures all together, but that one is my favorite. good job! =)
So hard to pick a favorite from all those wonderful pictures!
My two favs are “Streams Of Gold Await” and the “blue shoes” one.
I love FL! You’re so lucky you get to be (live?) there.
okay so i went and saw your website. thats pretty cool. =) question though. do you sell those photos on the site and for how much?
Okay….I admit it…the main reason I homeschooled my kids was so that I wouldn’t have to use an alarm clock. Haha….it’s true. I hate alarm clocks! My George gets up somedays at 3:30 a.m. and hits snooze about three times…aaaarrrrggghhhh!!! And then to top it off, he’ll get up and forget to actually turn the alarm off and by the time he’s downstairs (you remember all our stairs), the alarm goes off again and he’s not there to turn it off…sad day for me, indeed.
I love all the pics…I’m not going to pick just one…so there.
“Pipe Dreams” for the unnamed one. I’ll take a white-chocolate-chip-macademia-nut cookie if I win.
streams of gold and more than meets the eye. Fun memories
Eve, Needs a Good Name, Training Cobwebs and Blue Shoes! (I really couldn’t pick just one.)
I use my cell phone too. I have it on vibrate. Y’know, I must be a pretty light sleeper. One of my roommates has a very annoying alarm and it wakes everyone but her. Grr…
Great shots. Especially love those northern shots… the logs in Alberta, the Yukon cabin. The cobwebs shot is a great conversion.
Delray Beach, FL… nice. I think the heat would kill me though. Ah well… going to party it up in Miami? =)
Hi Eric! My favorite is “imminence”.. the tonality of the image makes the boats seem so ominous!
Thanks for your prayers. Also, thanks for photographing the wedding for us. I’m so excited to have you take the pictures and I know they will turn out great.
i like the road is long one & brooklyn ny at night. your camera takes really nice pictures
and it says on here your 21.. i thought you were like..i dunno..25,26. hah.
& nice blue shoes :p
Your pictures are so amazing, and your stories are incredible. I’ll be honest: “Streams of Gold Await” was my favourite. It’s so beautiful.
Blue Shoe Photography is so fun. It’s great. You are in all my prayers!
Gracias for commenting. It made me smile, and of course you are right. This letting go is not easy.
Bon Voyage and God bless!
your posts have a way of cheering me up!
oh man, i LOVE
“Dam It” -i think i love the title as much as the picture, that water is AMAZING
“Subtle Satisfaction” -what a precious girl, and that lighting is superb
“Training Cobwebs” -it gives me the willy’s…in a good way
especially “More Than Meets the Eye” -ahhhhhh! that’s so awesome!!!
“Imminence” -cause i think boats are rad, and so is your perspective
aren’t alarms the worst? i have yet to purchase a clock, being that i have the same unbridled hatred for them as you do. i’ve been using my cell phone since the beginning of the school year, if i hear anything resembling the sound of it i get this sinking feeling in my stomach. ahh…to be on my homeschool schedule again.
Needs a good name wins hands down! Suggestion for a name? Azure lookin’…
I love “Dam It” and “The View From the Top”. I would love to drive Alaska/Canada someday and see all that firsthand.
You could just call it “Unnamed Blue” — the unnamed aspect has almost become part of the picture.
Or maybe throw something about oxidization in there…
Eric ~ I love your sense of humor and I share in your disgust for alarm clocks! Bob and I also enjoy the freedom, oh wait… we have kids in school… alarm clocks…. ugh!!!!
Love your images….. ALL OF THEM! ~ Dawn
I think I started praying for you as soon as I started reading…..I would worry about your pace….but God says not to do that…so I just lift you up to him
I could not pick just one….wow, this was a great bunch of photos. I esp like “Dam it” , “After the fall “(very clever) , “The view from the top”, and ”Brooklyn Style” (I am reading ”A tree grows in Brooklyn” ) .
And now that I think more… the blue is so blue in your yet to be named photo…..so much intensity …Yeah, I do love it! It has the same feel as really blue water.
blessings….Please pray for a young girl named Kaleigh. Very ill in the hospital. Thank you!
Jenny
ok, I’m back with more phot comments…
cobwebs ~ A+
new wheels …good image but now I have to pray more
Top of the world (beautiful)…and bri yells at me for taking pictures while driving the bronco…but from a motorcycle!
Brooklyn~ yummy
Lines~graphic and bold
Cabin~ solid
fishing boats (one of my favorites)
and those blue shoes make me smile everytime
God Bless and keep you safe, Love and Hugs, Mary
Is this post supposed to make me feel sorry for you? Hmm..Sorry, not happening
I’m glad to hear that the new job thing is going well for you other than the waking up early part, of course. Great picture of Vontoria in the cowgirl hat. She’ll love to know that she’s famous now
Take care.
My favorites are; (drum roll please) “Opposing lines”, the pipes shot, and the leaves on Julie’s head. Nice
I think you’re getting good at this photography stuff, sonny ;P
my god they are all so beautiful but I actually do have a favorite:
has to be the Brooklyn one..its where I live and I have never seen anything so pretty…fact is when you live in a place for so long its just so dreary and you don’t look for the beauty in things anymore
You have a real talent….good luck with your alarm situation….lol I’ve never had to use one…I have an internal alarm…I think thats the worst though…cause when u don’t need it….your up anyway
I like Brooklyn Style, Imminence, and The Cabin….eclectic post, I enjoyed it:)
i like the one with the blue pipes, but of course the one of my sister is the “best”.
Eric, does the new website mean you are going to do photography full time. Judi
Blue Shoes is definitely my fav!
RYC- thanks for the kind comment.
Probably good that you’ve waited, used Mark IIs are dropping in price because of the Mark III. Or you could just save up and get a Mark III… that thing looks pretty damn sweet. =) And the good/bad news is that by the time your turn on the waitlist for those has come, you’ll probably have saved more than enough to get it!!
Eric~ Quess what we’re buying?! A Mac Lap top! Want to come out and teach us how to use it? Free room and board
Dear Eric,
You should do a post on Ron paul.
love,
Jon jon
How are you Eric, Judi
All beautiful photos…my favorite?…”More than meets the eye” A caption for the untitled photo?…”Communication Breakdown” KT
crap, so I’m late, as usual… Anyway, wonderful shots… lucky you for getting to go all those place. Two of my favorites.. the leaves and the cobweb… both for one main reason. it takes a good eye to spot something like that and execute the image as well as you did.. great colors, comp, light, DOF in the leaves shot.. and the cobwebs have great texture, tones, comp, and DOF. Great job all around. I also like “The Road is Long” and “Opposing lines”
titles… my creativity is very low right now, it’s finals week.. but here are a few: “Pipeline” ”Color Me Blue” ”Azul” “Urban Blue” “Forgotten”
Alright, I’ll be off now. but I agree with Broncomom, less pics, more frequent posts.. too many good ones to fully respect each as they deserve
I mentioned to Bri that I haven’t seen you around Xanga lately…she says that it might be because you’re spending time with Miss Julie and that there could be news when you return….
Glad you liked the quote. I loved it. I like the cabin but love them all. Judi
Thank you, Eric. Thanks for giving me a head up on my typing (I type so much, with all the different things I do, my brain gets in a rut sometimes.) error too.
I have been praying for you, and for Julie. Is there anything specific, I can be praying for you about?
Prayers,~Elizabeth
Dude, you humble with your work, you really do. T
good stuff! i have like, 3 or 4 favs in this set!
wow, you take amazing pictures.
“More Than Meets The Eye”
The reflection also shows what the biker sees and you get the feeling that the ride clears the mind and lets infinity and peace in.
“Wisdom Pipes in Blue”
Great art tells the story of old (wise) pipes still workingwith earned character.
Joy~
Jeanette
P. S. Forget alarm clocks. You will wake up early when you’re old.
