We Now Interrupt…
My Previously Planned Blogging…
To bring you a few photos I snapped during a 20 minute engagement session
with my Cousin Marcus and his then-fiance Misty this week. I’m currently
typing this from Jacksonville, FL with aching feet and tired eyes after
their wonderful wedding today. As a photographer, it’s always an interesting change of pace to be IN the
wedding party, and subject to not just another photographer, but to all of
the emotion that courses through the wedding party, and the attendee’s which
we as photographers sometimes begin to tune out, in the name of capturing
the artistic side of the images. And you know, I can understand why a lot of photographers feel so disconnected,
but to be honest I just can’t bring my self to do that to the Bride and Groom. The emotions that are a part of a wedding day are incredible… Hope, Love,
Fear, Worry, and Joy all come together into one short, sweet moment where
things become very real, and very resolved for everyone involved.I’m rambling a bit, but this tired guy has a mind full of thoughts, lol.
In Short:
I truly believe that as a wedding photographer we HAVE to re-engage ourselves
with the emotions that make a wedding day such an amazing thing. Far too often
(as was the case today), I see photographers recording things without ever feeling
them, and I think that such people can’t help but to capture images that PALE in
comparison to their potential greatness!I plan on posting one of my private blogs soon with a better explanation of what
I’m talking about here. Until then, only potential Brides get to see what I mean</end rant>

My Cousin Marcus is just two years my senior, and from the time I can remember,
up through the time I moved out of State, he was my closest friend. We were flying,
driving, and riding buddies and we had all sorts of crazy adventures… Though many
were perhaps eclipsed by our rampant aerial cow tipping.Shortly after he moved to Jacksonville where he serves in the Air Force as a crew chief
on an F-15 he met his neighbor… The beautiful Misty. The hilarity?
We actually spoke shortly after they met… He told me:“Ya man you have to come visit, we have an awesome place and my
neighbor is GORGEOUS!”He was right, and two years later they’re married!
Mr. & Mrs. Marcus Hinshaw“Better Together”
Something was funny…
They’re quite cute together…
Loved this tree… And Marcus got a kick out of the fact that
he got to/ had to touch Misty. Too funny!Once she got up there though, he looked longingly without me even asking him to.
He didn’t stay put for long.
See?
Tada!
And so ended our brief photo shoot.
I’ll be working to update you all on many, many other such events,
and I might even post some photos of today’s festivities if you ask me toAs always, I’d love to have your thoughts on the photos and content of my
posts, so leave me a comment and let me know which photo was your favorite!I’m going to be spending some time in St. Augustine with my family tomorrow
before I fly back to California on Monday… Should be a blast!!________________________________________________________

Wow, I am never first.
What great pictures! They really look like they had a great time. Not like most wedding photos you see…anything but a good time!!!!!!!!!! After hours of wedding photos at my wedding, everybody looked like they wanted to die from all of the “fake smiling”
I think that’s what I am most against with the world of wedding photography… Anything “fake”.
I’m all about setting up a great shot, but real emotion will always provide a more evocative
reaction than something that is staged.
I’m glad to have you as the “first”!
That first shot is Becker meets Jesh, you know that right? You rule. Too bad you’re going to be a GUEST at my wedding…
=Matt=
I like the second to last one myself. You can feel the energy between them. I also like the PP in number 4 her skin tones are perfect. Given you props on the whole photogs not connecting with their clients… I have seen it often and it definitely shows in the finished product.
Really well done as always,
Daniel
Hey Matt, I was a GUEST here too, haha.
Had a blast too!
Thanks Daniel… When I make my big post about mindset
and shooting style, I think you’ll be a fan. It’s certainly more work,
to photograph the way I do, but I have to admit that I truly have a
bit of a love affair with the whole thing!
Wonderful images as usual, I love your perspective on things
)
Cool man what’s with the diffused glow, new look for you? Great photos.
The glow just seemed to fit these images best.
The tree ones were shot in poor, mixed light and the orton effect style worked
with ‘em… At least for me, lol. Made the background’s less distracting, etc.
I like the storyline of the photos. So sweet
That’s cool man. I normally think those effects are really cheesy but I think you pulled it off really well.
I like image #4…everything works in it
Aww… they’re precious! Your photographs are beautiful, as usual!
Excellent…………
what else should I expect from your photos.
I like 7 & 8 best…natural and unusual…. like the expressions …. I agree with your assessment of wedding photography…… you should see our photos of 30 years ago…. so funny…that guy did not have a clue as to connecting or staging!!!!!!
Haha…nice shots for the wedding pictures. ^^
I do agree your points. (If I have made any serious grammar mistake, please forgive me = =)
Anyway, Dec 1 was my birthday, now, I am a 20-year old guy…Seems I am very old already = =
just feel free to talk to me in msn if you are available.
Best wishes ^^
these are great and i like the way you softened them up with photoshop. gorgeous! i’m so looking forward to seeing you in january
those pictures are awesome like always
you take such great pictures
man. I love that “See” shot and the first one too. Great job!
Very sweet….I like that you capture their love for one another. Can hardly wait for the wedding photos….yes, that is asking
And i have to agree……wedding phots from 30 years ago are all so stiff. thankfully Mary was doing her thing even then….best images are hers! I need to find the negatives…..the photos have aged.
Love to your family……give your mom a big hug from me! Jenny
Ahhhm I have such a loyal sister
Btw, I also like “longingly”
Looking forward to seeing the rehearsal and wedding photos, hope you’re having a wonderul time with the family
Thanks bro. Hope to see you out in Cali!
I like the “glow” to the pictures. I have good news. Within a couple of months I’m hoping to have the money to invest in a nice camera and learn a little bit about photography. I don’t suppose you could recommend something at that time?
I like “Longingly” and “Better together”. I like that her hands aren’t perfect and the shot still looks great. I like the security that the picture evokes, but maybe that’s because I’m a girl.
great set eric!
Hi, I am so proud that you but the “emotions” in the pictures. I was at a craft show Saturday and notice a lady that had some awesome paintings. I told her I felt like I could feel the emotions in them. That is a God’s sent gift. So proud of you! Please have a safe trip. Sharon in Charleston, SC
I like # 1 and #8. There is so much emotion in their faces! Who hasn’t felt that incredible “OMG I am SO crazy about this person” wrenching of the heart? You captured it here perfectly! don’t forget I want in on your photog class when you come to Boston! HUGS
the tree climbing pics look fun!!
congrats congrats!!! i once too had a pretty neighbor i was krazy about, she moved away eventually =(
ALL of the pictures are gorgeous. I wish you lived in Kentucky!! lol
i really like 8 and 9..the last two
your pictures are amazing. i come to your site for inspiration.
keep it up, please!
Ridiculously cute.
Hey Eric, I finally posted some images from that shoot we did. Maybe you would like to come by and check them out.
You rule, beautiful photos.
Ha, now I understand your rant.
I skimmed over it because I already knew you felt that way about wedding photography
I just wanted to get to your pictures
ryc — Thanks! I actually thought you might be out there with the surfers rather than photographing them — lol !
Hey if you wanna fire me for not shooting Canon, that’s cool! I’ll still HIRE you to help me sell my forthcoming product, but rest assured your cut would be a slim one!
Ah, blackmail!
Great shots!
I am more envious now of the fact that you get to hang out in St. Augustine! I love it there. SO much to capture there too. Hope your having fun. ANG
Well I love me too.
What the hell do I want a Mac for. You can’t even run Garmin GPS software on it.
I love the 3rd one.
Heh – yes, I am SO looking forward to beautiful southern California…
After I posted that, it snowed two inches. With 6+ more expected this weekend… I love the winter, but I’ll be glad for a little break. : )
looked like a lot of fun!!!
ryc~ look how nice your hair looks in my photos btw
Lovely photos—the 2nd to the last was perfect, IMO. Good job!
eric farewell, we so needed you today!!! i had to get someone to do sarah’s wedding portrait this morning to have in time for the reception. i need to touch base with you asap about sarah and chad’s wedding when you have a moment. when’s a good time to call???
You have some amazing photos on this site! For this particular post, my favorites are #7 and 8.
~S
hmmm, yeah, I was having a bit of experience shooting in low light… shady and cloudy stuff. It was hard for me. It looks like you found a way to get around that. Those pics are nicely glowy but also clear and colorful.
MAn, these are great I LOVE #1!
Thanks for the comment Eric!
you always seem to photograph such photogenic(sp?) people!
ryc: lets just say what I did might have killed my career in Hawaii, but started a new one in LA, NY, and Paris.
How’s the leg man? Fully recovered? Ride safely.
ryc: yeah the first one is actually a few miles away from shady maple…i think you said you ate there correct?
Ahh – are you a Paulite (or should I say “freedom lover”) too?
Aviatorcutie,
What are you doing on Saturday?
Skunk
Awesome work. Love the overlay in first shot. Really works. They would have to be stoked with these set of images.
love that first shot with the texture! and ryc, we got into disneyland for free using a shopping pass. you can go in for an hour with no charge to buy stuff, but if you stay inside past an hour they charge your cc for a full day pass. it was just enough time to get some awesome shots around d-land!
Hey! I’m a friend of Abby VH…
Just had to say that I love love LOVE your pictures. You’re not just clicking away… You’re capturing the heart of the moment. Not everyone does that…
His workshop is Jan 21-24.
What wonderful engagement photos. I especially love the first one. I generally don’t like overlays, but this one I really like! Great work Eric!!! Merry Christmas!!!! ~ Dawn
